{Stairway Designs: A Essential Feature in Building Planning
Stairs are more than just a means of moving between levels; they are a important part of a building’s design. With so many designs to choose from, stairs can be tailored to meet the requirements and styles of any space. From compact Spiral staircases to grand Curved designs, there’s a stair to fit any space or vision.
{The Versatility of U-Shaped Staircases
This option of stair features two flights of treads connected by a landing that turns 180 degrees. This option is commonly used in more spacious homes or commercial buildings where upward space is plentiful. Despite their luxurious look, U-shaped stairway designs have a efficient design that saves space. The landing is a practical feature that can also enhance the stair’s aesthetic appeal. These stairway designs are linked with sophistication and are common in opulent homes.
{Curved Stairway Designs: Blending Grace and Utility
Curved staircases are known by their flowing lines that create a elegant, flowing motion. Unlike Spiral designs, Curved staircases have a softer turn, providing a more open climb. Curved stairway designs are often seen in grand homes, traditional structures, or upscale hotels as a centrepiece. The building process for Curved stairs is detailed and often comes with a greater price tag. Despite the expense, Curved stairway designs create a magnificent focal point that enhances any interior.
{Floating Stairs: A Statement of Modern Design
A Floating stair is characterised by its clean design, creating the appearance of steps hovering in air. The hovering effect is created by anchoring the treads to a concealed structure, removing the need for bulky structures. Floating stairs are a common feature in sleek homes, where they enhance the feeling of openness. The simple design of Floating stairs allows other design elements, like lighting, to become centrepieces. While stunning, Floating stairway designs require careful engineering to ensure they are stable and secure.
{Spiral Stairway Designs: A Elegant Feature
A Spiral stair consists of steps that wind around a helical axis in a circular fashion. These stairs are perfect for small spots, like small apartments, where standard designs won’t work. Spiral stairs are available in materials like wood, providing numerous creative flexibility. While they are compact, they can be more challenging to climb, especially for those with mobility issues. However, their distinctive design makes them a favourite option for adding artistic flair to interiors.
{Bifurcated Stairs: Ideal for Luxurious Entrances
Bifurcated stairway designs are known by their opulent, balanced design, typically found in mansions. Bifurcated stairway designs include a primary flight that branches into two at a break, frequently bending away from each other. This style is known for its dramatic and impressive presence, often chosen for grand entrances. The symmetrical design ensures a harmonious appearance, often accentuated by ornate balustrades or lighting. While they require significant space and budget, Bifurcated staircases are a classic symbol of elegance.
{The Lasting Charm of Staircases
Beyond their functionality, stairs are a example of design innovation and artistry. From efficient Spiral designs to luxurious Bifurcated styles, stairs offer endless possibilities to elevate any space. Regardless of the style or function, staircases will always be a central feature in how we experience and appreciate our environments.
Thousands of homes could have 'unsafe staircases'
Thousands of council homes could have potentially dangerous staircases which need to be replaced.
Newcastle City Council said more than 3,000 homes and 57 block of flats have staircases with horizontal guarding which can pose a risk to children climbing up the panels and either falling or becoming trapped.
The authority said the design, now banned under modern building standards, was a category one hazard under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
